Arizona Snow

While we were driving from Jerome, AZ to Prescott, AZ we stopped in the mountains to check out the snow. It's very bizarre when you're down in Phoenix, in the middle of the desert surrounded by cacti, to think that there are pine trees and snow just 2 hours north of you! As you can see it was pretty warm up there too, still t-shirt weather when it wasn't windy...

Jerome AZ

Inspired by our friends Jim, Barb & Daryl who spent Christmas day out at Jerome AZ, we decided to follow in their footsteps and spend a day up there ourselves. It's a beautiful old small town, built into the side of a cliff it seems as you hike (or drive) ever upwards through the rows of small shops until you reach the haunted Jerome Grand Hotel at the very top. The hotel was formerly a hospital and it's restaurant is called "The Asylum", which probably gives you some clues as to what kind of hospital it was and why the place is so haunted ;-)

Glendale Xmas Lights

We just spent a couple of hours over at Glendale as they turned on their Christmas lights. Thought I'd upload a few photos to test out Posterous' photo slideshow feature. It's interesting how good the iPhone is in daylight but how poor it is in low lighting situations :-) The  trees and lights were cool though, it's beginning to feel a lot like christmas...

New Shower

We have a new shower, the above is a picture of the old one. For those of you who have visited, you know how small and yucky the bath-tub/shower inclosure we had was. When they redid these condos they had the bathtubs resprayed to cover them, but they did not do it correctly. The new layer was pealing off and once my shampoo fell and knocked a "hole" in the covering on the bottom. We could not even scrub it because bits came off. Something had to be done.

So, on October 5th we had the shower ripped out. For the next few days, while I was on fall break for the week, there were guys here ripping out the old and tiling the new space. We barely came out any father too, the tub/shower piece was just so far into the shower area we gained 4-5 inches just getting rid of that thing. The good news is, they did not have to remove the toilet to work on the shower. It would have sucked to not have a toilet in the house. There is one out by the pool though, so we would have been okay.

I felt bad for the guy who tore out the old tub/shower as it was sent in 5 inches of cement. I took pictures of all the cement when it was piled up in the garage, Mike the guy who dug out the cement had a tape measure so took a picture showing how thick the cement was.
The new shower is sooooo nice. They finished it all on Thursday the 8th and on Friday morning Ross got to use the new shower first. It is so hard to take a quick shower in the morning now. It is all white and blue glass tile and the shower head was moved up at leas 6 inches so Ross does not have to duck to wash his hair. Boo the cat even likes it!

The Room

Just got home from the best Midnight Movie Mamacita show yet - "The Room". This is an absolute must see, but you have to watch it in at the cinema, no DVD's allowed! Yes the movie has appallingly bad acting, writing and cinematography, but it's the audience participation that makes it. Make sure you take a bag of plastic spoons with you so you can shout "SPOON!" and throw spoons at the screen every time you see the spoon picture in the background (guess who got there late and had to sit on the front row!); marvel at the icky lump on Lisa's throat; yell "Where's this filmed?" at every tourist shot of San Francisco; chant "Go! Go! Go!" every time they cross the Golden Gate bridge; make zen chanting like "Om" sounds along with every kiss; say hello & goodbye to Danny as he walks in and out of every shot... the list goes on. The most fun I've had in years, I'm going back for next months screening and taking everyone I can find :-)

Happiness is a bad movie

As many of you know, I'm a sucker for bad movie. So it was with immense anticipation last night that I finally headed out to a meeting of the midnite movie mamacita, to check out the original 70's version of "Quel maledetto treno blindato", aka "The Inglorious Bastards". You know, the movie Tarantino has just remade with Brad Pitt? Well if its half as good as the original its gonna be great. It's an italian WW2 epic where everyone is very painfully 70's, with all the bad editing, hammy acting, giant sunglasses, even bigger mustaches, and naked fraulines with machine guns you could wish for! Heaven :-)

The MMMamacita folks were great too, with some spectacularly bad previews of their upcoming screenings (Japanese horror movie Hausu looks like a must see), and competitions to win tickets to press screenings, movie posters, etc. Even the small audience were great, shouting out funny stuff all the way through the movie. I definitely know what I'll be doing with my fri/sat nights from now on!

Shakesperian Arachnids

Two highlights of the day so far. First I was in an Apple store way out east in Santan Village, looking at headphones when suddenly a giant light brown spider comes crawling out from under the display racks. It was a good 4" around with it's legs all curled up! I resisted the urge to scream like a little girl, and pointed it out to a nearby staff member, who promptly did scream like a little girl ;-)

Secondly I discovered a cool new English pub called Shakesperes. So far Im liking it, sat here blogging and enjoying a Malibu & coke while waiting for my curry to arrive. If it wasn't sunny and hot outside I could almost be back in blighty...

Later Addendum: The curry was good, really good. Like 'couldn't finish it so got a to-go box for the rest' good, something I never normally do. Yum

Hummer Tour

One of the perks of my new job is we get to do something fun one afternoon a month. This month we hired 3 Hummers and went off-roading in the desert thanks to the guys at Desert Storm Hummer Tours. They could fit 11 people in each Hummer, luckily we were all seat-belted in because these things bounced all over the place as we drove over rocks, up impossibly steep hills, and did 40+mph power-slides in loose sand :-)

Obviously not the best way to celebrate Earth Day (whoops!) but it was a lot of fun. Highly recommended for any of you guys coming into town soon...

Photos are here.

Look for me on Google Street View!

Driving home from Frys today I notice a car coming in the opposite direction with a little tower sticking out the roof with a ring of cameras around the top. My first thought was "Google Street View!" and sure enough as it drove by I notice a Google sticker in the back window. I made sure I had my best slack-jawed gawp going on as it passed me ;-) I was on 24th somewhere around Van Buren, I'll let you know if I show up...
