Dead Snow

"Dead Snow" is my new favorite zombie movie of all time! :-) Norwegian teens head to a remote cabin in the snow, only to be attacked by nazi zombies left behind from WW2, still looking for their nazi gold... and brains!

It's streamable now on Netflix, or check it out on Amazon

The Room

Just got home from the best Midnight Movie Mamacita show yet - "The Room". This is an absolute must see, but you have to watch it in at the cinema, no DVD's allowed! Yes the movie has appallingly bad acting, writing and cinematography, but it's the audience participation that makes it. Make sure you take a bag of plastic spoons with you so you can shout "SPOON!" and throw spoons at the screen every time you see the spoon picture in the background (guess who got there late and had to sit on the front row!); marvel at the icky lump on Lisa's throat; yell "Where's this filmed?" at every tourist shot of San Francisco; chant "Go! Go! Go!" every time they cross the Golden Gate bridge; make zen chanting like "Om" sounds along with every kiss; say hello & goodbye to Danny as he walks in and out of every shot... the list goes on. The most fun I've had in years, I'm going back for next months screening and taking everyone I can find :-)

Happiness is a bad movie

As many of you know, I'm a sucker for bad movie. So it was with immense anticipation last night that I finally headed out to a meeting of the midnite movie mamacita, to check out the original 70's version of "Quel maledetto treno blindato", aka "The Inglorious Bastards". You know, the movie Tarantino has just remade with Brad Pitt? Well if its half as good as the original its gonna be great. It's an italian WW2 epic where everyone is very painfully 70's, with all the bad editing, hammy acting, giant sunglasses, even bigger mustaches, and naked fraulines with machine guns you could wish for! Heaven :-)

The MMMamacita folks were great too, with some spectacularly bad previews of their upcoming screenings (Japanese horror movie Hausu looks like a must see), and competitions to win tickets to press screenings, movie posters, etc. Even the small audience were great, shouting out funny stuff all the way through the movie. I definitely know what I'll be doing with my fri/sat nights from now on!

ShatnerQuake (an action novel)

Yes you read that title correct. There is a book out there called SHATNERQUAKE. The title is all caps on the cover, I am not yelling at you. It is written by a guy named Jeff Burke, and he's from Portland. I didn't know that when I bought the book. (Yes I know you can see all that on the picture but not everyone pays close attention to the picture)

It is a short novel, a novella really, it is only 83 pages long. Perfect for a read by the pool, and that is exactly what I did. The premise is "ShatnerCon" where everything Shatner is happening. Stuff happens (don't want to give too much away) and there end up being all the Shatner's from every show he has every done, even the Priceline commercials and something he did in Esperanto (that is a language by the way).

So, the real Shatner has to battle the other ones for survival. Other crazy things happen along the way but again I don't want to give too much away. I was a little bummed with the ending. It was not as thought out as the rest of the book in my opinion. Do not let that stop you from reading this. If you ever watched Star Trek, TJ Hooker, Rescue 911 or Boston Legal, and you know you watched at least one of those shows, you will enjoy so many little things in this book. The book is plain fun for Shatner fans and Campbell fans. You have to read it if you want to know what I mean by that.

To get the book order it from www.bizarrocentral.com or amazon, it's worth the wait. Enjoy, and let me know what you thought.

My first scuba dive

Remember my last work fun-day when I was riding around the desert in Humvee? Well this one was even better. That's me in the picture playing frisbee underwater, while learning to scuba dive. It's not nearly as scary as I thought it would be. We learnt a few basic tricks like how to avoid getting our ears burst by the water pressure and how to empty water out of our masks & respirators while under water. All without killing ourselves! Yes I could actually easily get hooked on this... like I need another expensive hobby. Now if I can just get Sally into it too, all our future vacations will have to be somewhere hot & sunny....

And the T.Rex is related to...

Fantastic story from Wired. 68 million years ago a T.Rex died. In 2000 a paleontologist dug up its femur. In 2003 scientists started analyzing it, and by 2007 we had machines powerful enough to track 7 samples of protein in the ancient fossilized femur. 5 of those samples closely matched bone collagen of an animal alive today. And what is the T.Rex's most likely descendent???

The humble chicken :-D

United Breaks Guitars

Sally pointed me towards this fun YouTube video about a guy who watched his beloved Taylor guitar get smashed to bits by the United Airlines baggage handlers. They refused to take responsibility for it or buy him a new one, so he's started writing songs about it, and pretty good ones too... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/08/united-breaks-guitars-pas_n_228062.html

Hummer Tour

One of the perks of my new job is we get to do something fun one afternoon a month. This month we hired 3 Hummers and went off-roading in the desert thanks to the guys at Desert Storm Hummer Tours. They could fit 11 people in each Hummer, luckily we were all seat-belted in because these things bounced all over the place as we drove over rocks, up impossibly steep hills, and did 40+mph power-slides in loose sand :-)

Obviously not the best way to celebrate Earth Day (whoops!) but it was a lot of fun. Highly recommended for any of you guys coming into town soon...

Photos are here.

Look for me on Google Street View!

Driving home from Frys today I notice a car coming in the opposite direction with a little tower sticking out the roof with a ring of cameras around the top. My first thought was "Google Street View!" and sure enough as it drove by I notice a Google sticker in the back window. I made sure I had my best slack-jawed gawp going on as it passed me ;-) I was on 24th somewhere around Van Buren, I'll let you know if I show up...
