Well for those of you who know what an Apple fanboy I've become over the last couple of years, this should come as no surprise, but I finally caved and bought an iPhone. In biblical terms I believe it goes "the iPod begat the iMac which begat Sally's iMac which begat the iPod HiFi which begat the AppleTV which begat the iPhone". Yes Steve Jobs now owns my soul, or at least the fun entertainment based parts.
I'd held out bravely for a few weeks now since it's launch date, but the trip to the Grand Canyon finally sealed it for me. On the trip I was carrying a phone (whose battery dies ever day), a GPS, a Sony PSP (for reading email & web news), and a camera, plus an army of chargers and batteries. I decided enough was enough, I could replace all these things with the iPhone.
So here's an example of why I love it. We're driving around and Sally asks where I want to go get something to eat. I reply "Theres that Thai place I want to try , but I don't know where it is" so I search on Google Maps and find "Wild Thaiger". I tell Google Maps where we currently are and it provides directions to get there - nice. As we're driving to the Wild Thaiger, we see another cool looking place, and they happen to have their website URL posted on their building, so I bring out the iPhone again and use it's Safari web browser to check out the website for the place we just drove by. It looked so good we went there the next night :-)
