Phoenix Comicon alert

Just an FYI to geek friends in Portland...

The Phoenix Comicon is setting up for Memorial Day weekend (May 26th-29th). We checked it out last year and had such a great time we ended up spending the entire weekend there!

This year they have guests like Leonard Nimoy, Billy Dee Williams, Bruce Boxleitner, Stan Lee and many more. If you're looking to get your geek on and enjoy a little sunshine too, it's a great event!

Rumours of snow in the valley

In the last post I mentioned Flagstaff is already getting snow, and is expected to get 2ft-ish by the end of the day. Well now, the local news is saying we may even get some snow in the valley too in the early hours of the morning. Tonights low is plummeting to 31ยบ - thats below freezing, and we have a storm moving already moving in. I picked a good week to take a vacation from work!

Sedona & Anthem

Spent the day up in Sedona. We were hoping to see a little snow but we got there 1 day before it started snowing - Flagstaff (just north of Sedona) for example, is expected to get 2ft of snow today! Anyway, we had a cool time looking around the many cool art shops in downtown Sedona, and found a bunch of new places we hadn't seen before. We also took the road out to Cottonwood on the way back, which was a way we hadn't gone before.

As we were heading home (south) we stopped at a rest stop on the side of the freeway. We could see the traffic heading north all blocked up by an accident that was right by the rest stop. There were some pretty mangled cars, lots of police and ambulances, and even an emergency air lift chopper flew in to pick people up. Hope everybody involved is OK!

We also stopped at the Anthem outlet mall on the way home, which always has the tallest Christmas Tree in the nation! The trees always come from the Oregon/California border, which is kind of cool for us.

Christmas on South Mountain

Wanting to get out of the house for an hour on xmas day, we headed for nearby South Mountain - not realizing that it's a popular xmas day destination! Our normal spot looking north over the valley was so packed that Forest Rangers were blocking the road up there until it emptied out, so we carried on up to the top where the TV antennas are and checked out the views south for the first time...
